Hockey Post: Alex Ovechkin... Hottie?

Does Anyone Else Think Ovie is Kind of Cute?

Considering how poorly the Flyers played this evening, I'm not even going to talk about it.

Instead, I'm going to focus on something completely different, yet still related to hockey: does anyone else out there think Alexander Ovechkin is kind of cute?

I hadn't really thought about, until I saw several someones posted "Hottest men in Hockey" videos on YouTube. They scroll through pictures of hot men in hockey, including names like Crosbey, Letang, and Jagr, names I had expected, for the most part. However, there was one name I hadn't thought would appear in any of these, yet it did, over and over:

Alexander Mikhaylovich Ovechkin.

But he is kind of cute, isn't he? In a nextdoor, shy-guy kind of way? Maybe? Anyone? Well, even if you don't agree, you can't argue that he's being cute in this great little video:

(The only thing I dislike about the video is that the subtitle says "right wing;" isn't Ovie left wing?)

So what is it about him? I'd like to think it's his shy grasp on the English language, or perhaps how down to earth he seems to be sometimes. At six foot two and two hundred and fifteen pounds, you'd think he'd be a little more outgoing. But he is soft-spoken, and is hilarious when he's flustered.

Ovie, after a record-breaking rookie season, recently signed a thirteen-year, $124 million dollar contract with the Washington Capitals. During the following press conference, Ovie was asked if he signed the deal for the money.

"'Hockey is my life,' he said, shrugging, 'and money is money. ... If you think about money, you stop playing hockey.'

"Asked what he plans to buy with his new riches, he said: 'I feel I have everything.'

"'A front tooth,' added [Capitals Owner, Ted] Leonsis , noting the big gap in Ovechkin's smile.

"'Maybe razor,' chimed in Ovechkin, who arrived for the press conference unshaved and with a mop of uncombed hair. 'Well,' he said, 'I'm still looking good'" [From ESPN NHL.com].

How cute is he! A stunning comparison to his so-called "peer," Sidney Crosby [or as Mark Cisik, CEO of Flyers Daily Dosage, likes to call him, "Cynthia Antoinette Crasby," which makes me laugh every time]. Ovechkin seems to have inherited all the respect for other players that Sidney lacks; he's an amazing player, someone (even this early in his career) I have no problems comparing to the likes of "Super Mario" Lemieux, and Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe.

But Wayne Gretzky? I think he's got a lot of pucks to shoot before he can even think of touching Gretzky's name. But The Great One himself has a lot of confidence in everyone's favorite NHL Russian.

"I think he can get 90 one day," Gretzky said. "The thing about scoring goals, it's one thing to score but there are some guys that really enjoy scoring goals more than other guys. He's one of those guys that likes to score. If he could, he would keep the puck for every one. But it's great for the game, he brings excitement to the game, he's fun to watch. He's a good player."

I'm beginning to wonder if there are actually a lot of attractive hockey players out there, or if I just find hockey players attractive...
